Sharing with our Glenbrae Kids

This morning Room 7 went on a mini field trip out the gate, down the path and into the next gate to visit the wonderful young tamariki at Glenbrae Kids Early Childhood Centre. We took along a bunch of our favourite picture books to share with the them.
After sharing our books with the children, they shared their learning activities with us. We got to explore their arts and crafts, blocks, and playground. We invited Glenbrae Kids to come to our special assembly next Friday where they might share a song with us all.

Holiday Home Learning

With one day of term 2 left each child went home with a home learning pack today.

In it was a reading log, some creative blogging prompts, and some mathematics strategies and practice activities.

With two weeks of no school it's time to keep cozy, and take ownership of your own learning.

If you want help with your maths here's a few videos that will teach you some smart strategies! Share them with whānau and see if they can do the problems too!

Happy home learning Glenbrae tamariki. Ka mau te wehi.

Solve fraction problems using repeated addition.

Solve division problems by using your times tables.

Solve subtraction problems like 85 - 39 = _
by making the second number a "tidy number"

Solve fraction problems like 2/5 of 25 =

Solve multiplication problems like 4 x 27 = _
by splitting the bigger number into tens and ones.

Inquiry Roadshow

This morning Glenbrae School had our inquiry roadshow. This is so that each class can share the learning that they have done throughout the term. We create presentations, posters, diagrams, movies and hands-on activities to share with whānau, friends and classmates.
We took turns sharing and practicing our presentation skills, making our teacher, Principal and families very proud.

In case you missed the roadshow, or wanted to see more, view our personal blogs

This term's inquiry focus was in theme with the recent 100 year anniversary of Anzac Day, learning about WW1, weaponry, medicine, and NZ history.

Glenbrae KIDS

This morning Room 7 visited Glenbrae Kids, the new Early Childhood Education centre that has been built in the front of our school.

We took some of the books with us that we had published to read to the young children.
First Simeon and Luisa shared their story with the children.

Then Alex, Loto and Honey.

The children loved listening to our stories, we are now published authors!
Once all of our books are finished we will donate them to Glenbrae Kids so they can read them over and over again.

After reading the stories we taught the children some games. It was fun teaching them, some as young as one year old all got to participate. The children also showed us their learning centre and some of the fun things they like to do.

SHARE! Whanau netbook training

As part of Manaiakalani Education Trust, Glenbrae school supports tamariki and whānau to learn how to use their chromebooks in the best possible way. We call this our Kawa of Care and includes everything from Looking after the device, being Cybersmart, and home learning.

Last night we invited whānau to join us to learn about the Kawa of Care so that our new chromebook learners can begin to take their devices home. By taking their device home they can continue their learning journeys, anywhere and anytime!

It was an absolute delight to see our talented tamariki, showing their whānau through our learning site, this class blog and their own personal blogs. Mothers, fathers, grandfathers all took part in using their children's chromebooks and got to practicing writing thoughtful, positive and helpful comments on their blogs.

It was awesome for our fantastic Room 7 learners to share their learning with their families. They were very proud of their work and I was very proud of them for leading the learning in the way that they were sharing with their whānau!

Well done tamariki, and thank you to the wonderful family members who came along. We couldn't do this without you!

Thumbs Up Thursday

Would you believe it, week one back at school has already finished. It was a short week I suppose, with Waitangi Day tomorrow.

We spent this week getting to know each other better. Today we each bought an item from home which we shared with a friend. Our friend then shared our item, and why it was special to us with the class.

It was a great way to learn more about one another, and practice speaking aloud.
