Asthma Presentation

Yesterday we had a very special show from an energetic man named Chris.
Chris was wearing a bright blue suit and was really fun to listen to. He told us all about Asthma and how we can look after ourselves if we have asthma.

He said that we have triggers, things that make the asthma worse, and for different people different things trigger our asthma. The triggers he talked about were:

  • Viruses
  • Smoke
  • Animal Fur
  • Cold Air
  • Pollen
  • and Dust Mites
By knowing what triggers our asthma we can stay away from them and prevent an asthma attack.

Chris also told us all about the way to use our inhaler, or puffer. By placing a blue spacer in on the end, then taking 6 regular breathes through the spacer.
We all learned a lot about asthma yesterday. Thank you Chris.

Glenbrae KIDS

This morning Room 7 visited Glenbrae Kids, the new Early Childhood Education centre that has been built in the front of our school.

We took some of the books with us that we had published to read to the young children.
First Simeon and Luisa shared their story with the children.

Then Alex, Loto and Honey.

The children loved listening to our stories, we are now published authors!
Once all of our books are finished we will donate them to Glenbrae Kids so they can read them over and over again.

After reading the stories we taught the children some games. It was fun teaching them, some as young as one year old all got to participate. The children also showed us their learning centre and some of the fun things they like to do.

MOTAT Museum of Transport and Technology.

Another week has zoomed by, and this one was as action packed as always.
On Wednesday we piled onto the green buses and headed for MOTAT with the rest of the senior school.
Our main learning focus was World War One and the technologies they used during the war for communication. We also learned all about the early technology that people used... learning about this this allowed us to think about where we were and where we are now. It's amazing that the seemingly simple technology from the olden days has led us to today.
For example, running water. At MOTAT we went to the Pumphouse. One of the first technologies in New Zealand that allowed for transport of water to villages. Before that, people had to take a bucket to a nearby stream, while nowadays we can just turn on a tap in our house.

Soccer Tournament

Today, Wednesday the 6th of May, 12 of the children from Room 7 went to the inter-school soccer tournament along with other year 5, 6, 7, & 8 students.

It was a great day where we showed teamwork, respect, sportsmanship and fair play.

We entered into 3 divisions: Year 5; Year 6; and a Year 7/8 team. Each team got to play 5 games against the other teams.

It was a hugely successful day, and Glenbrae School took out third place in both the Year 5 and the Year 7/8 divisions.

Well done to all the players who gave it their all!

Beginning Basketball

Today was our second basketball lesson with Coach Chanel. She taught us some ball handling skills then got us playing games where we had to practice dribbling the ball.
This was great fun and we were all pretty exhausted afterwards. This week we are writing recounts of our basketball lesson and trying to add as much detail as possible about the activities to add interest.
Be sure to read our individual blogs to read our interesting detailed recounts!

Practicing bouncing the ball between our legs.
